What is CAPM?
CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management) is PMI\'s entry-level credential. Unlike PMP, no PM experience is required — just 23 hours of formal PM training and a Secondary diploma.
How is CAPM different from PMP?
PMP requires 3-5 years of PM experience plus 35 contact hours. CAPM requires zero experience plus 23 contact hours. CAPM is designed to enter the PMI ecosystem early; PMP is for experienced practitioners.
Is CAPM worth it?
Yes, if you are a fresher or junior professional. It signals commitment to project management as a career and often gets you shortlisted for entry-level PM roles that would otherwise require PMP.
Can I upgrade CAPM to PMP later?
Yes. CAPM training hours count toward the 35-hour PMP requirement (with a top-up), and CAPM credential holders often have an easier time qualifying for PMP once they build experience.
